Stranger Things is brought to us by the geniuses at Netflix, a company that has gone beyond being the perfect replacement for Blockbuster to being the producer of some of the most imaginative and daring films and shows of our age. It’s an incredible show that grasps modern storytelling and mixes it with the nostalgia of the 80’s to create a story we can really sink our teeth into.

Of course behind the amazing horror costumes they’ve come up with for the creature on set, there’s also some background the many may not be aware of.

A Real Time Travel Project Served As Its Inspiration

Part of the inspiration for this story can be found in a conspiracy surrounding American attempts to generate the ability to time travel. Known as the Montauk Project it didn’t produce any zombie bodies or result in severed heads being left lying around, but it did inspire the events that take place in the show. Specifically everything surrounding 11 and her upbringing.

Eleven Was Hand-Picked By Stephen King

Millie Bobby Brown plays the role of Eleven in the show, and her role was basically hand selected by Mr. King. No, he didn’t have any official role in the film or its production, but he sent out praise for her on his twitter due to her performance in the BBC Intruders and it caught the attention of Stranger Things creators.

Our Stranger Things Almost Wasn’t

The film was originally considered to be an anthology without recurring characters, instead being a monster mash of a series full of 1980’s nostalgia, but then things changed. The first season would have been the last time we saw our cast of heroes, moving on to a horror tale told in the 90’s.

Once they saw how incredible the team of actors they had was they knew it meant changing the whole nature of the series.

Pranks Are Common On Set

The morbid and dark atmosphere of the show leads to a form of gallows humor happening among the cast and crew. In this instance we’re specifically referring to the time when Noah Schnapp’s mother (the one who plays Will) was led into a dark room where an eerily perfect corpse of Will was propped up in a chair.

They told her they had something to show her, and she understandably flipped out when she saw it. Don’t worry though, she has a great sense of humor and loved it when they let her in on the joke. So much so, in fact, she texted an image of herself posed with the corpse.

Stranger Things has been an incredible ride with characters that touch us and remind us of those embarrassing days of youth where we felt like we lived in a world entirely different than that of the adults around us. It does an awesome job of drawing the adults in the world of the children, and of making the beliefs of children have real power as a result.
